Heat and Frost Insulators 18

Contractor List

Members of the Heat and Frost Insulators Local 18 have been on the job at St. Elizabeth East Hospital, Eli Lilly, Bob Rohrman Toyata and several projects at Purdue University which include: Terry and Fowler Houses, Hockmeyer Hall and the Bill and Sally Hanley Building. We have also secured the Mackey Arena project along with other projects in the Tippecanoe County area.

To prepare members for the challenges of their profession, apprentices complete a four-year training program covering metal layout, blueprint reading, mathematics, safe handling of potentially hazardous materials, OSHA safety, first aid, CPR and more.

They spend 144 hours in the classroom each year, meeting for eight hours every Saturday from January through May. Apprentices also receive 1,800 hours in on-the-job training.

Special training and upgrade classes are also offered for apprentices, journeymen and new members to fine-tune their skills. These include asbestos awareness, abatement and safety procedures, environmental management practices and monitoring, confined tank entry, fall protection, fire stopping, and other changes in the construction industry.
